Ever since Ruben Amorim arrived at the club, the biggest question for all Manchester United fans has been which of his former players will he try to sign for the English club?

So far, the Portuguese tactician has not yet made any significant moves in the transfer market, but the the Red Devils have consistently been linked with Viktor Gyokeres.

Arsenal are interested in signing Gyokeres and him this January transfer window, which Manchester United cannot rival, without making a few significant sales from the squad.

However, as per The Independent, the 20-time English champions are hopeful they will be able to beat the gunners to his signature as they have the edge.

Despite Arsenal’s interest to sign the £84million striker this transfer window, Sporting are not willing to part ways with the player as they look to navigate a close title race. That should give the Old Trafford outfit time until the summer.

More importantly, the Manchester-based club have good relations with the Portuguese club, and Ruben Amorim still maintains a very good equation with his former employers. All this gives Manchester United an advantage over Arsenal in the Gyokeres race.

The goalscoring woes so far as this season have been well documented with the strikers in the squad failing to find the back of the net at a regular consistency. Gyokeres, who has scored for fun will without doubt be an excellent upgrade.

It will be a huge surprise to see Manchester United make a move for the 26 year old this month, but don’t put it past them to use their connections and strike a deal by the summer.

As far as Arsenal are concerned, with Jesus injured and Havertz misfiring in front of goal, they need a prolific goal scorer to beat Liverpool to the title this season. Will they bid big for Gyokeres this month? We shall see.
