Manchester United drew 0-0 against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park despite Erik ten Hag’s side dominating in South London.
Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United put severe pressure on Dean Henderson’s goal for Crystal Palace but amazingly the Red Devils could not put the ball into the back of the net.
Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes struck the bar and the Red Devils had multiple other opportunities to score but they could not put the ball into the back of the Palace net.
Andre Onana made an incredible double save to preserve a point. Here are five things we learned from United’s disappointing draw in South London.
Man United created a lorry load of chances against Crystal Palace
As the game progressed, the final outcome was beginning to look more and more obvious. United created a lorry load of opportunities but Henderson stood firm.
Garnacho hit the crossbar as did Bruno Fernandes. Matthijs De Ligt also had another headed opportunity from a corner that hit Henderson, who didn’t know much about it.
Chance creation has been one of the big positives for United this season with the Red Devils creating countless chances but taking these opportunities when they come to them remains a big problem.
Christian Eriksen justifies midfield selection
This last week has certainly been a good one for Christian Eriksen with the Danish midfielder now back in Erik ten Hag’s plans at United.
Eriksen scored twice during United’s 7-0 win over Barnsley in the Carabao Cup and the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder justified his selection.
Eriksen pulled the strings in the United midfield and the pre-match hysteria that the Red Devils could be overrun in the middle of the park but that was not the case and the Dane justified his selection.
Diogo Dalot continues impressive performances at left-back
Another player who impressed at Selhurst Park was Diogo Dalot. Dalot gave away the penalty against Southampton last weekend but made up for that in South London.
On the ball, Dalot looked impressive and played a beautiful clipped pass to Garnacho as the Argentine struck the crossbar with his effort.
Dalot’s inverted position meant that United dominated the midfield battle and the Portuguese full-back continues to prove that he is one of the best in his position in the Premier League.
Bruno Fernandes struggles against Palace
Despite United’s complete and utter dominance of the game, it was not all positive with Fernandes struggling the most in midfield.
The United captain gave the ball away multiple times with sloppy passes a constant for the Portuguese midfielder.
After a brilliant cameo against Barnsley, Fernandes looked a bit more ordinary against Palace in South London.
Lisandro Martinez in danger of being sent off
Lisandro Martinez, alongside Fernandes, was another player who struggled in South London with the Argentine being a lot more reckless than usual.
During the second half, Martinez flew into a two-footed lunge near the Palace penalty box and was very fortunate to not make contact with Daichi Kamada, otherwise, he would have been shown a straight red card.
Martinez was certainly snapping into tackles and sold himself too easily which nearly allowed Eberechi Eze to score, with his effort going just wide.
