DONE DEAL: Arsenal agreed deal with £50million French World Cup star until 2024 just few hours after Arteta confirmed talks – OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT TOMORROW

Arsenal have activated the option to extend centre-back William Saliba’s contract until 2027.

The 21-year-old’s deal had been set to run out in the summer, with a deadline of December 31 to trigger an extra 12 months.

Arsenal have taken that step in recent days.

Talks also continue between Arsenal and Saliba over a new long-term contract.

This is Saliba’s first year in Arsenal’s first-team set-up, with the France international having spent the previous three seasons on loan in Ligue 1 at Saint-Etienne, Nice, and Marseille.

Since returning to north London ahead of the 2022-23 season he has been an ever-present in the heart of defence, helping Arsenal to a five point lead at the Premier League summit.

He has already featured 24 times for Arsenal this season, scoring twice, and has formed a formidable partnership with Gabriel Magalhaes
