Done deal: Leicester could now make last-ditch bid for ‘magnificent’ Arsenal player close to joining PL rival
Leicester City are considering a move for Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno with Kasper Schmeichel’s future at the King Power Stadium in doubt, according to a report from Get French Football News.
Schmeichel could leave the Foxes. The report claims that he has agreed personal terms in principle with Nice. Talks between the two clubs over a fee are yet to begin.
Nevertheless, Brendan Rodgers’ men are considering possible replacements for the Denmark international. And one of the names on their radar is Leno, Get French Football News reports.
Leno – who has been labelled ‘magnificent‘ by Mikel Arteta in the past – looks destined to leave Arsenal this summer. However, it seemed that he was set to join another Premier League side. Reports claimed that he was close to sealing an £8 million move to Fulham.
But he could now be offered the chance to move elsewhere.
Leicester considering move for Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno
Leno would have certainly been given food for thought if Leicester make a move. It seems as though his move to Fulham is well down the line.
Moving to Craven Cottage would present the 30-year-old with the chance to stay in London.
However, Marco Silva’s men obviously have a point to prove. They have not been in the same division for two years running since 2017. So they will want to avoid another immediate return to the Championship.
Leicester meanwhile, have finished in the top-half of the table in six of the last seven seasons.
It has been a disappointing window for the Foxes thus far. But it would be a big surprise if they really struggled during the coming campaign.
So that would arguably be the safer move for Leno if the opportunity arises.
