EDU AND ARTETA ARE REPORTEDLY ABOUT TO DO SOMETHING THAT’LL OVERJOY ARSENAL FANS – OUR VIEW
Any Arsenal supporters who had doubts about Mikel Arteta and Edu are probably believers now.
The Brazilian director has overseen the expenditure of over £500 million in transfer fees since returning to North London in 2019.
And Arteta, despite being a young and promising manager, has yet to get Arsenal back into the Champions League, with two full seasons under his belt to do so.
This season, however, the Gunners are clearly on the right track.
Edu oversaw another brilliant recruitment drive during the summer months and now the North Londoners are top of the Premier League after winning eight of their nine games this season.
And if one rumour is true, Edu and Arteta might be about to delight the fanbase even more.
Gabriel Martinelli has been a massive part in Arsenal’s early-season heroics and opened the scoring in Sunday’s 3-2 win at home to Liverpool.
According to UOL, as covered by HITC Sport, the 21-year-old is set to sign a new contract until 2028 and there’s no doubt that when it happens, it’s an enormous boost for the club.
That’s because Martinelli is among Europe’s most exciting young players and tying him down to a long-term deal like this would protect Arsenal in a major way.
It doesn’t guarantee that he’ll be at the Emirates Stadium until 2028 because, honestly, he probably won’t be.
It does, however, guarantee that the Gunners will receive an absolute fortune for him in terms of transfer fee, because he’d have six years to go on his contract.
Arsenal have let too many brilliant players go for much less than their true value in recent years and it would’ve been a travesty if the same happened with Martinelli, whose existing deal expires in 2024.
But fortunately, that won’t be happening thanks to Arteta and Edu
