‘Excitement’: Steven Gerrard names Arsenal ace amongst players he can’t wait to see in Qatar
Speaking at Hyundai’s Goal of the Century sustainability campaign (via Liverpool Echo’s YouTube channel), Steven Gerrard has been discussing some of the players he’s most excited to see at the World Cup.
The former England captain was, of course, mainly focused on the Three Lions and he says there are plenty of players he’s excited about seeing for England.
The likes of Mason Mount, Raheem Sterling and Jack Grealish got mentions as did Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka.
Gerrard says that there is a lot of excitement for England in the front-half of the pitch, and he thinks this firepower can help the Three Lions get out of the group stage.
GERRARD EXCITED
The Liverpool legend shared how excited he is to see some of England’s attacking stars.
“I think we’re pinning our hopes on the forward players, they’ve proven they can score big goals in tournaments. There’s a lot of excitement in the front half of the pitch with Mason Mount, Saka, Grealish and Raheem Sterling. I love the midfield now with the introduction of Bellingham and with Rice being fit and Phillips getting fit,” Gerrard said.
SAKA COULD LIGHT UP THE TOURNAMENT
Gerrard says he’s excited about a few players, but Bukayo Saka may well be the most intriguing player heading into this tournament.
The Arsenal star has a few wrongs to right on the international stage, and he heads to Qatar full of confidence and in great form as his Arsenal team sit at the top of the Premier League.
Saka could well be the Player of the Tournament when all is said and done, he certainly has the ability to become that sort of star, and there’s still an element of surprise with this young man as he’s only 21 years old.
Saka could be the breakout star of the Qatar World Cup.
