Manchester United are reportedly ready to cough up £25 million to sign 26-year-old Norwegian midfielder Sander Berge, valued at £30 million by Burnley.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Sander Berge is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils have identified the Burnley midfielder as an alternative to Manuel Ugarte. The Clarets want around £30 million to part ways with the 26-year-old, while Manchester United will be ready to fork out £25 million to secure his services.
Sander Berge and his English frustrations
Sander Berge has not managed to fulfil his tremendous potential since arriving in England from KRC Genk in January 2020. He was one of the best young midfielders in Europe during his spell with the Belgian club, compelling several high-profile clubs to set their sights on him.
The 26-year-old has been with Burnley since last summer and has turned out 40 times thus far for the Clarets while chipping in with two goals and two assists. However, Burnley’s relegation to the EFL Championship has turned Berge’s head, and he wants to depart from Turf Moor after only one season.
Meanwhile, Sander Berge’s situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. The Norwegian international might soon return to the Premier League, with Manchester United among his prospective suitors in the final weeks of the summer transfer window.
Premier League return on the horizon?
Manchester United’s interest in Sander Berge is understandable. The Red Devils have been keen on signing a holding midfielder in the summer transfer window after Casemiro blew hot and cold throughout the 2023/24 season. The Brazilian midfielder’s struggles contributed to Manchester United’s inconsistent performances last term.
So, Manuel Ugarte emerged as Manchester United’s top target to bolster the midfield unit. However, talks to sign the Uruguayan international have stalled, with Berge one of the alternatives. The latest update has revealed that the Premier League heavyweights are ready to cough up £25 million to sign the Norwegian midfielder.
Recent reports have claimed that Burnley will demand around £30 million to part ways with the 26-year-old. So, Manchester United’s prospective opening bid of £25 million will fall short of the Clarets’ valuation by £5 million. It will be interesting to see if the first bid does the trick for them to secure Sander Berge’s services.
