Arsenal have reportedly made an ‘approach’ to sign Everton star Amadou Onana in this winter window, as per TEAMtalk.

It has been suggested that the Gunners have been exploring the possibility of signing a new midfielder as a potential replacement for Thomas Partey – who has been struggling with injury problems over the last few years.

Several names have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in recent times with Douglas Luiz being mentioned as the primary option. However, Aston Villa are reportedly keen on keeping hold of their star man as they don’t want to let him leave in mid-season.

So, it appears Arsenal have now given up on their pursuit of Luiz and have started to explore alternative targets with Onana now emerging as the priority option.

According to the report by TEAMtalk, Mikel Arteta is a ‘huge admirer’ of Onana and Arsenal have already made an ‘approach’ to sign the Belgian in this transfer window.

Onana to Arsenal
The report further claims that although Chelsea and Manchester United have also been showing an interest in securing his signature, the Gunners are looking to step up their efforts to beat their rivals in this race.

However, TEAMtalk states that Everton don’t want to let their star man leave for cheap if they are forced to cash-in and have demanded a fee of at least £70m. So, the North London club will have to break the bank to lure Onana to the Emirates Stadium in January.

The Belgian has been showcasing glimpses of his talent for Everton in recent times so he could be an excellent signing for Arsenal if they purchase him.

However, it has been suggested that Arsenal can’t afford to purchase anyone in January by spending a big fee due to FFP regulations. So, it doesn’t look likely that Arsenal will be able to acquire Onana’s service this month should the Merseyside club stay firm on their valuation.

Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Emirates club can eventually manage to secure the 22-year-old’s signature in this transfer window to reinforce their engine room.
