‘Sources at Donetsk tell me’: Romano shares what he’s now been told about Arsenal and Mudryk

Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the recent speculation linking Arsenal and Mykhaylo Mudryk.

The transfer insider, speaking on the House of Champions Podcast, admitted that the Gunners like the Shakhtar Donetsk star.

Likewise, Mudryk “would love to go to the Premier League”, but his club won’t be letting him go for cheap, added Romano.

And amid all the speculation, Arsenal haven’t actually made a bid just yet, claimed the journalist.

“He would love to go to the Premier League, that is not a secret.

“He would love to go, he was dreaming of Premier League football when Everton offered in August, Bournemouth have been interested as have Brentford,” Romano said.

“Arsenal have been interested. In August they wanted him, they had negotiations, but no official bid in August because Shakhtar wanted more than €45m or €50m,

“Now it is way more than this. I understand it is more than €60/€65m for Mudryk to move in January.

“My sources at Shakhtar Donetsk tell me that there is no bid on the table.

“They say that ‘we know about the interest, we know they are keen on Mudryk in the future, but no official bid.

“It is on Arsenal now, the player would be open to moving in January because he wants a new experience in a new club.”

‘I’d probably choose Arsenal’

Speculation linking Arsenal and Mykhaylo Mudryk has increased massively in recent days.

The Gunners were heavily linked with the Shakhtar Donetsk star over the summer transfer window.

According to The Express, Arsenal chief Edu baulked at his valuation.

Mudryk stayed put at Shakhtar, but he kept speculation alive just days after the transfer window shut.

He told CBS Sports: “Yes, I think every guy dreams about playing in the Premier League.

“Arsenal is a very good team, very good coach. I like the way they play.

“Yes, from my side, I can’t say no, but a transfer is not only my decision.”

Since then, Mudryk has gone from strength to strength, getting more and more admiring glances his way.

This season, the 21-year-old has registered an impressive eight goals and eight assists from 16 outings.

Better still, three goals and two assists have come in the Champions League, showing he can play at the highest level.

Now, Mudryk has once again spoken highly about Arsenal, in conversation with Vlada Sedan on YouTube, as translated by 90Min.

“From a purely hypothetical perspective if there was the option of being a bench player for Real Madrid or a starter for Arsenal, I’d probably choose Arsenal,” he told the journalist, who is married to Arsenal and Ukraine star Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Specifically asked about Arsenal, Mudryk added, “I check on them on MyScore and know I can check on them when they’re playing.

“I also watch them too. They are a very dynamic side, in general not just in controlling possession but also in scoring goals.”

You can’t help but wonder whether the Gunners will rue not moving for Mudryk in the summer.

Arsenal could’ve potentially signed him for around £40m-45m, but now they’ll be looking at £10m on top of that.

That said, it would still be a shrewd investment. Mudryk is only 21 and is likely nowhere near his best yet.

The longer Arsenal leave it, the more he’s likely to improve and cost, not to mention more and more clubs circling.

Just like when Liverpool bought Luis Diaz in January amid interest from Spurs, so should Arsenal go all out for Mudryk in two months’ time.
