FIRST SIGNING: Arsenal now really pushing to sign the third most expensive player ever, he’s ‘world-class’ – journalist

Arsenal are pushing to sign Portuguese international Joao Felix on loan as well as Mykhailo Mudryk during the January transfer window.

That is what Sky Sports News journalist Dharmesh Sheth said on YouTube, as the Gunners look to keep their title challenge going.

The contrast in the attacking options available to Arsenal and Manchester City were laid bare during the first Premier League matches of 2023.

With Arsenal locked at 0-0 against Newcastle on Tuesday, they only made one change and were not able to break the game open.

City were in the same situation away at Chelsea last night but were able to summon Jack Grealish and Riyad Mahrez on the hour mark.

The pair combined to win the game and cut the gap at the top of the Premier League table back down to five points.

Against that backdrop, it makes sense that Arsenal would try and land both, but it will be financially challenging in all likelihood.

Sheth said: “The information that I’m getting from sources in Portugal is that Arsenal are really pursuing the Joao Felix deal. They’re trying to get Felix and Mudryk as well.”

Felix is the third most expensive player of all time, behind Paris Saint-Germain duo Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, and it is not often a player like that is available on loan mid-season.

But at the moment, Atletico Madrid are demanding a financial package beyond any suitor and it remains to be seen whether that situation changes as the window wears on.
