Manchester United are poised to sign promising English defender Harry Amass, it has been claimed. The defender is set to join from Championship side Watford. And he’ll become the club’s first signing of the summer transfer window, with Erik ten Hag eager to bring in more reinforcements.
Fabrizio Romano took to Twitter to say United were set to welcome Amass to Old Trafford.
“Manchester United are now set to sign English talented fullback Harry Amass, deal done,” he said on the social media platform.
“It will be signed, completed this week.
“Amass joins from Watford — told he’ll sign four year contract.”
And fans on Twitter have reacted immediately to the development, with many underwhelmed.
“Wow, signing a fullback from Watford is really going to solve Manchester United’s problems,” said @Hustle0022.
“Low budget Harry Maguire? Okayyyy,” stated user @Aleshhimself.
“Wow what a signing I’m sure he can also play as midfielder, striker n goalkeeper great signing that’s around £150m saved now,” mocked @UTD_Denver07.
And @DembaSane13 said: “Meanwhile, City and Arsenal are preparing an offer for Rice.”
United are, of course, expected to sign more senior players in the weeks ahead.
Ten Hag knows reinforcements are needed if he’s to reel in Manchester City next season.
A new goalkeeper could arrive, with David De Gea currently looking set to leave on a free transfer.
Dean Henderson may also leave amid interest from Nottingham Forest, having enjoyed a successful loan stint at the City Ground last season.
United are interested in Andre Onana of Inter Milan, while Porto star Diogo Costa has also been linked.
The Red Devils are hoping to add to their midfield as well.
A deal for Mason Mount has stalled, despite the Chelsea star being eager to move to Old Trafford this summer.
Moises Caicedo is under consideration, though Brighton will want a fee of £80million to let their prized asset go.
United have been tipped to enter the race for Ryan Gravenberch, who is widely expected to leave Bayern Munich just 12 months on from his arrival.
And Taylor Booth and Leon Goretzka, as well as Adrien Rabiot, have also been linked.
Ten Hag’s biggest priority is a new striker, however.
United are facing a fight to sign Harry Kane, with Tottenham adamant their talisman isn’t going anywhere.
It’s a similar story with Victor Osimhen, with Napoli eager to keep the Nigeria international and extend his contract.
Atalanta want big money to let Rasmus Hojlund go.
And United may struggle to prise Goncalo Ramos away from Benfica, too, despite Ten Hag admiring the Portugal international.
