‘From what I understand’: Fabrizio Romano shares what Manchester United went and told Mason Mount yesterday
Manchester United have informed Mason Mount and his representatives that they intend to make a second bid to sign him from Chelsea.
That is according to Fabrizio Romano.
We’ve heard plenty of rumours in recent weeks about the future of Mason Mount, who’s about to enter the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge.
Journalist Simon Phillips claimed last week that Mauricio Pochettino is desperate for Mount to stay at Chelsea. The 23-year-old could still be sold if his asking price is met, though.
Now, there’s a fresh update regarding the Mount transfer saga.
Journalist Romano has explained on his YouTube channel that Chelsea rejected a £40million bid from United yesterday for Mount.
However, Erik ten Hag’s side have informed Mount that they will make an improved offer in the upcoming days.
The English attacking midfielder is still a ‘priority target’ to bring to Old Trafford this summer.
“Manchester United submitted an opening proposal for Mason Mount. The proposal was worth £40million and was rejected immediately by Chelsea. For Chelsea, the player is worth £70million,” Romano said.
“From what I understand, Manchester United’s intention is to bid again in the next few days.
“They told the player’s side today that their intention is to try again.
“Manchester United are on it for Mason Mount as a priority target.”
It sounds like there’s still plenty more twists and turns in the Mount story.
We’ve made it clear we want Mount, who’s been the poster boy at Chelsea in the last few seasons, to sign a new contract and stay in west London.
However, we’re becoming less and less certain he’ll stay with every piece of transfer news.
Chelsea are well within their right to stick a big price tag on the England international, who has so much experience and quality despite a quiet time last season.
It feels like the Blues will be backed into a corner to sell him soon enough, though.
