Full Agreement reached: Arteta’s first Arsenal signing to join new club within days – sources confirmed

Mari is set to complete a permanent move from Arsenal to Monza after they secured their Serie A survival, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed the Italian club will activate an option in the 29-year-old’s loan deal worth £4.4million.

The deal for Mikel Arteta’s first Arsenal signing after arriving at the club as manager in 2019 is set to be the Gunners’ first piece of summer business.

Mari will begin a mass senior player exodus this summer as the Londoners continue to offload fringe stars.

The transfer for the Spaniard is in place, terms are settled and should be completed soon, possibly even within days.

Arsenal signed Mari on an initial loan in 2020, with the defender eventually costing a reported fee of £6.8million when a permanent deal was agreed later that year.

The former Man City ace made just 22 appearances across all competitions for Arteta’s side before going out on his first loan to Udinese last season.

Mari’s contract at the Emirates Stadium is set to expire in June 2024, meaning he can discuss a pre-contract agreement with a foreign side from next January.

But Monza are set to pull the trigger on a permanent move in the off-season after he helped them stave off the threat of relegation to Serie B this term.

He has made 29 appearances across all competitions, contributing one goal.

The FA Cup winner even recently wore the captain’s armband for the Italian outfit despite his short tenure with the club.

According to FBRef, Monza are paying Mari a weekly wage of just over £88,000-a-week.

Another of Arsenal’s loaned-out stars is set to move on from the title challengers this summer.
