FULL TIME 1-2: PGMOL finally disallowed Bournemouth late goal as Recent review shows there was a foul on Amad diallo before the equalizer,Three points awarded to Man united as FA releases official statement this morning

Amad and Manchester United wanted a penalty just seconds before Bournemouth equalise

Manchester United have been told that VAR deemed there was not enough contact to give them a penalty in the lead up to Bournemouth’s equaliser. Amad fell to the ground under a challenge from Adrien Truffert but appeals for another spot-kick were waved away.

The Cherries left-back then slotted Ryan Christie in and he poked past Senne Lammens to level the clash after Bruno Fernandes’ penalty moments earlier. United players were left seething at the decision to allow the goal due to the apparent foul at the other end.

The Premier League Match Centre on X have since given a verdict on the incident. Their post to social media read: “BOUMUN – 67’ The referee’s call of no penalty for a challenge by Truffert was checked and confirmed by VAR – with it deemed the contact was not sufficient for a foul.”

United later went back in front however, with Fernandes’ corner inadvertently headed into his own net by James Hill. Further controversy followed after that with Harry Maguire fouling Evanilson in the penalty box before being shown a straight red card for the denial of a goal-scoring opportunity.

Second half substitute Eli Junior Kroupi slotted home the subsequent penalty. Michael Carrick looked to his bench following Maguire’s dismissal with Ayden Heaven coming in to play alongside Leny Yoro.

On the Maguire red card incident, the Premier League Match Centre on X wrote: “#BOUMUN – 78’ The referee’s call of penalty and red card for Maguire for the denial of an obvious goal scoring opportunity (DOGSO) was checked and confirmed by VAR – with it deemed to be a holding offence with no attempt to challenge for the ball.”

United are already without Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt at the back and Carrick cannot select Maguire for their next clash against Leeds United. Thankfully, that is not for three weeks with it likely the injured duo could return by then.

Maguire will only serve a one-match ban and thus will be back available for games against Chelsea, Brentford and Liverpool.

United are arguably competing with all three of those teams for a spot in next season’s Champions League. Three spots look to be available with Manchester City and Arsenal comfortably ahead of most.

Manchester United players react

Manchester United star Harry Maguire was left baffled by his sending off against Bournemouth

Carrick’s side could have gone within four points of their rivals with a victory at Vitality Stadium but will likely be happy with a point considering they had to play the final 20 minutes a man down.

Even before the red card, United were put under serious pressure by Bournemouth with Alex Scott striking the bar from distance.

One positive for United from the final knockings was the return of Mason Mount for Amad with the midfielder having missed the last few weeks due to injury.
