‘Hanging up the phone’: Journalist says Arsenal won’t sell Unai Emery signing for even £127m – Chelsea are seriously interested
Signed in 2019. Debut in 2022. One of the first names on the teamsheet in 2023. It has been some journey for William Saliba at Arsenal.
Unai Emery was in the dugout when Arsenal brought in the highly-rated defender from St-Etienne, but he had to wait three years to make his debut.
Since that opening-day thumping of Crystal Palace last seaosn, both Arsenal and William Saliba haven’t looked back.
CBS journalist James Benge stated that if an interested party were to put ‘£127 million’ on the bale for the 22-year-old, then they might just ‘hang up the phone’, as he told Inside Arsenal.
Nearly every player worth his salt or playing at a healthy level is worth close to £100 million, if not over it, by their respective clubs.
Whilst Arsenal don’t have any intention of selling William Saliba, CBS journalist Benge just indicated what it would take for someone to just take notice.
William Saliba’s transfer worth
“I think Saliba, at the very least, has the potential to be the best player in the world in his position,” said Benge.
“You don’t sign players like that more than once in a generation. The last time you would say that about a signing is probably Thierry Henry.
“That £27 million now, if you put a one in front of it, then Arsenal are still probably hanging up the phone if you try to sign Saliba.
“He is just everything you want in a centre-back. Kind of like van Dijk at Liverpool.”
Saliba will be the world’s best….just not yet
These past 12 months have been beyond incredible for Saliba but there is still a long way to go.
Many think that he is already the best centre-back in Europe and in the Premier League, but he needs to add trophies to his name before he can start to talk like that.
Last season, as the crunch moments arrived, Saliba got injured, which started the club’s decline.
