He can walk into this current Man city team and bench any player there,If Arsenal doesn’t win any trophy this season then we should see it as a curse’: Arsenal legend Patrick Viera says Arsenal has that ONE player who is on another level this season
Sky Sports pundit Clinton Morrison believes Arsenal skipper Martin Odegaard just hasn’t been as good this season.
The 25-year-old was on target yesterday as Arsenal thrashed Burnley 5-0 at Turf Moor.
Martin Odegaard netted the opening goal of the game with a trademark finish into the bottom corner from range.
Odegaard was at the top of his game on Saturday and also created Bukayo Saka’s second goal of the afternoon while putting in a commanding display in midfield.
The Norwegian has had a hand in four goals in his last two appearances. But despite his recent upturn in form, Clinton Morrison believes he was better last season for the Gunners.
Morrison says Odegaard hasn’t been as good this season
Speaking on Sky Sports, Morrison lauded Odegaard as a ‘special’ player after his display at Burnley.
But the pundit did point out that he believes he hasn’t quite hit the heights he managed last term this time around.
“I just think they cause problems, I think they’ve scored the most goals from set-pieces this season,” Morrison said after being asked about Arsenal’s recent record in front of goal.
“Now, they’ve changed it and Declan Rice is the set-piece taker and he delivers good balls.
“They go and attack. They’ve got the likes of Gabriel [Magalhaes], [William] Saliba. You get confidence and that’s what Saka has got at the moment, confidence in his veins.
“You’ve got [Gabriel] Martinelli on one side, you’ve got [Kai] Havertz causing problems and getting goals. You’ve got Odegaard, who is a fantastic player.
“For me, he probably hasn’t hit the heights he did last season but he’s still a special, special player. They’ve got [Gabriel] Jesus to come back, so they’ve got a lot of good attacking options.”
It’s hard to disagree with Morrison’s verdict on Odegaard when you look at the Arsenal skipper’s season as a whole.
He wasn’t quite at his best during the first half of the season. But the same could be said for many of Arsenal’s key players.
Nevertheless, Arsenal and Odegaard seem to be finding their best form at just the right moment.
The Gunners have also managed to grind out results while not being at their best this term and look set to make a big pish for the Premier League title this time around.
