‘He’s so erratic’: Gary Neville says Manchester United player is not as good as everybody said he was
Gary Neville believes Andre Onana’s passing is erratic despite the Cameroon international being known for his superb play with the ball at his feet.
Manchester United suffered a 2-1 defeat against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground with a late Morgan Gibbs-White goal handing the hosts their first victory in 29 years.
After a shot from Christian Eriksen was saved by the shaky Matt Turner, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side were celebrating after Gibbs-White’s shot flew past Andre Onana into the back of the net.
It summed up the Red Devils’ performance that they conceded a goal barely seconds after having an attack and the pressure is surely building on Erik ten Hag.
Neville on Onana
Speaking on Sky Sports, former United right-back Gary Neville was critical of the 27-year-old, who is set to link up with Cameroon for the Africa Cup Of Nations, and believes his passing is not as good as people have claimed it to be.
“Onana came with a reputation for being really good on the ball but l just don’t think he is that good on the ball,” Neville said. “He is so erratic.”
When Onana received the ball outside of his penalty box, his long pass struck Chris Wood’s head which frustrated Neville.
The former Ajax goalkeeper couldn’t do anything for either goals but the 27-year-old certainly didn’t help himself with some of his passes and his decision-making.
Onana looks set to head off with Cameroon to the mid-season competition which will surely see Altay Bayindir, who has still yet to make a single appearance since his move to the club.
Bayindir’s chance
Well, the Turkish international will be starting for the Red Devils for around a month once Onana departs for the tournament and it is certainly a risk that the 25-year-old has not played a minute for United.
Bayindir joined the club for £5 million from Fenerbahce and it is rather surprising that the Turkish international is yet to feature for the Red Devils, despite reportedly impressing in training.
He deserves a chance for United and he will get his chance for the Red Devils but we await to see how well the Turkish international does.
