‘He has to go’: Manager told £35M to leave in the summer Amid speculation Arsenal want to sign Him
Celta Vigo star should not miss out on an opportunity to join a ‘big team’ this summer with Premier League giants Newcastle United, Arsenal and Liverpool tracking the La Liga starlet.
That is according to Aleksandr Mostovoi; a Celta Vigo legend who spent almost a decade at Balaidos either side of the Millennium.
The chances of Veiga sticking around for as long as Mostovoi did look slim, interest rising by the week in a man few outside of Vigo knew from Adam just six months ago. Veiga has shot to fame with nine goals and four assists in his breakthrough La Liga campaign, the variety and the technique of his finishing making that £33 million release clause all the more tempting for his growing throng of suitors.
Newcastle are reportedly ready and willing to trigger that clause, while offering Veiga an £85,000-a-week contract at St James’ Park. Liverpool may make a move of their own. The Spain U21 international is far more affordable than many of Jurgen Klopp’s other midfield targets (ESPN).

But Veiga, Faro de Vigo report, still views Arsenal as his preferred destination. At the Gunners, he would share a dressing room with fellow Spanish speaker Mikel Arteta, while joining a club who turned fellow youngsters Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Martin Odegaard and co into some of the best in Europe.
“Talking about young players, in two years you don’t know where they will be,” Mostovoi tells SrPablo’s YouTube channel. “My advice is that, if you have an offer from a big team, you have to go.”
The struggles of Iago Aspas at Anfield may be something of a cautionary tale. The 35-year-old, after all, lasted just one season in Liverpool red; returning to Spain with his tail tucked firmly between his legs.
As far as Mostovoi is concerned, however, Veiga should back himself to succeed where Aspas failed. And even if things don’t go to plan at Arsenal, Newcastle or Liverpool, Veiga can still do like Aspas did and return to Celta before kick-starting his career again.
“You always have time to come back,” Mostovoi argues. “But if you have an offer, you have to go and try. There may not be a second chance.
“If it works out, great. And if not, you always have time. Iago is back (at Celta) and he’s the best.”
