He is better than Hujlund and Garnacho but I still know why Ten Hag is benching Him always’: Paul Scholes blast Ten Hag for keeping £50m Star who has contribution this season than Rashford on the Bench always

Manchester United recently registered a third successive Premier League win after Scott McTominay’s late heroics against Aston Villa on the road.

The Scotland international has transformed into a brilliant super-sub in recent months, and he made the difference with a 85th-minute goal at Villa Park.

The 27-year-old has now made eight goal contributions in the league this season. This constitutes to 24 per cent of the club’s goal involvements, as per The Athletic.

Bruno Fernandes is the only other player in the United squad with the same contribution. He has three goals and five assists in the ongoing campaign.

Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund have been involved in only seven goals thus far which highlights McTominay’s importance.

Man Utd should keep McTominay this summer
McTominay was the subject of interest from West Ham United last summer, but the Hammers were reluctant to meet the £40 million asking price.

United received a late proposal from Fulham before the transfer deadline, but the decision had already been made to keep him for the season.

The hierarchy may start to contemplate his future once again when the season ends but in our view, the club must not sanction his exit this summer.

His current scoring form is bound to attract more bids, but United should not lose a home-grown player who is capable of match-defining moments.

We recently saw a statistic that United would have had 12 points less without McTominay’s goals.

The Scot may not be an assured starter under manager Erik ten Hag anymore, but his influence off the bench is as valuable as any player in the starting line-up.
