He is going to be a world-class player,He has proven to be once again’: Alan Shearer says One Man United player is going to be a world-class player soon if He continues with this form
Manchester United beat out Aston Villa yesterday and Alan Shearer has singled out Harry Maguire for some big praise.
Maguire nabbed himself an assist as his header fell to Rasmus Hojlund to put United in front. The England defender is back in the team after being shunned earlier in the season and looks to be finding form ahead of the Euros in the summer.
Against a tricky and quick Aston Villa attack, Maguire did well and will have been delighted to have been on the winning side in the end.
And speaking about Maguire on the Rest Is Football podcast, Alan Shearer lauded the defender for the attitude he has shown.
Alan Shearer praises Harry Maguire
Speaking alongside Gary Lineker, who also praised Maguire, Shearer admitted to being really impressed by the character and resilience shown by the £80m defender.
“He’s had to put up with a lot of s**t hasn’t he? Again, while we’re on about attitude and everything else, I think he’s been brilliant you know. It would have been easy for him, knowing that the manager probably didn’t want you, didn’t want him as captain. Now he’s back in playing well, shown some great character, really really great character to go and put in a performance like he did yesterday,” Shearer said.
Maguire deserves credit
There aren’t many players who have had the abuse and scrutiny that Harry Maguire has had in the last 12-18 months and Shearer is spot on here.
Yes, Villa created chances and might have scored more on another day, but Maguire, who earns a whopping £190k-a-week at Old Trafford, was still good in the main and played his part in the crucial opening goal.
For both England and United this is good to see. The Red Devils need him playing well with Lisandro Martinez injured again and England need as many defenders playing and in-form as possible.
Maguire, then, deserves this pat on the back from Shearer.
