‘He is my favorite’: James Maddison says player Arsenal let go for nothing in 2021 ‘one of my favourites’
Arsenal transfer target and England midfielder James Maddison has shared on his Instagram story that Mesut Ozil was ‘one of my favourite players’.
The Leicester City star added ‘what a player’ Mesut Ozil was for Arsenal, Real Madrid and Germany following his retirement from football at the age of 34 – he hung up his boots last week and Cesc Fabregas praised his career.
From the magic Ozil produced in the colours of Arsenal, his success at Real Madrid to that World Cup win in Brazil. It was a stellar, trophy-winning and drama-filled career for the playmaker.
When Ozil was in form, not many players could match his quite ridiculous ability to pick out a pass and carry a ball out of difficult situations.
Mikel Arteta now has Martin Odegaard showcasing that magic in north London, although, he has a long way to go to match what the former Germany international produced.
Perhaps James Maddison could add to that magic if he signs in the summer? Either way, Arsenal fans would love what he has had to say about one of their former players who left in 2021 after Mikel Arteta decided to show him the exit door.
“Happy retirement to a legend,” said Maddison. “What a player! One of my favourites to watch.”
MADDISON TO FOLLOW OZIL’S FOOTSTEPS?
The England international is a highly sought-after player and someone Arsenal would very much like on their books – Bukayo Saka applauded the player for his recent England performance.
Whilst the Leicester star, who has nine Premier League goals this season, didn’t get on the scoresheet, he produced the goods against Ukraine in what was his first start for England under Gareth Southgate.
But it is high time he took his game to another level and Arsenal would be able to provide that platform – 90min reported in February 2023 that the Gunners are keen on Maddison.
