Mikel Arteta endured a tough start to his tenure but has assembled one of the best squads in Europe with a few players perhaps in the illustrious world-class category.
However, one man thinks they have a player who is really overrated.
Didier Drogba says Declan Rice is ‘very overrated’
Former Premier League footballer Drogba has caused a spark on social media by labelling Declan Rice ‘very overrated’.
“I think with Musiala, he justifies the hype. I think Declan Rice is very overrated. Don’t get me wrong I think he’s a very good footballer but the way the English media wax lyrical about him, I think it’s completely over the top,” the 35-year-old said.
“For me he’s not world-class, world-class to me is someone who gets in every single side in the world and I don’t think he does that. I don’t think he gets in the Man City side ahead of Rodri, I don’t think he gets in, I know Kroos is retired but to me Toni Kroos is world-class, he dictates the game, Rodri dictates the game.”
Arsenal have at least two world class players
Arsenal have at least two world-class players and Rice is certainly one of them.
Martin Odegaard is also in that category and there is a strong case to make for both Bukayo Saka and William Saliba.
The aforementioned pair are among the best players in their position across Europe, so depending on how you define world-class, they should at least be in the conversation.
