He is the lifesaver of Arsenal now,Fans are not praising him because He doesn’t score goals’: Declan Rice named the Arsenal player that really surprised him yesterday
Ahead of the stunning win over Newcastle United on Saturday, Declan Rice named the Arsenal player who has really surprised him with how good he has been since he joined the Gunners last summer.
Mikel Arteta‘s men appear to be hitting their groove at the absolutely perfect time. Arsenal have been in irresistible form of late. The Gunners have won their last six Premier League games, scoring 25 goals in the process.
Certainly, any concerns over whether Arsenal would have the fire-power to handle another title race have been put to bed. And Newcastle found out just how lethal the Gunners have become as they were blown away at the Emirates.
Declan Rice names Arsenal star who has really surprised him since his arrival
In fact, the only negative for Arsenal was the late goal they conceded from Joe Willock. It was the first league goal Arsenal have conceded from an opposition player since January.
Of course, it is Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba who can take a lot of the credit for that. David Raya has not had a huge amount to do in recent games. And the centre-backs’ partnership just continues to get stronger and stronger.
Speaking to TNT Sports ahead of the game, Declan Rice suggested that he was always aware of the hype surrounding Saliba. But what the player alongside him has done has caught him slightly off guard.
“Do you know what, I can’t speak highly enough of them. I’m not going to sit here and lie, I think Saliba’s unbelievable. Obviously, I heard all the talk about him before I came here,” he said.
The one who’s really surprised me is actually Gabriel. He’s so aggressive, so strong. Really wants it all the time. Never loses a duel. When you’ve got two centre-backs like that, who want it, play aggressive, it really helps and gives you confidence.”
Gabriel Magalhaes now getting praise Gunners staff think he deserves
Many at Arsenal previously felt that Gabriel did not get the credit he deserved. And that is perhaps exemplified by Rice’s comments. But that is surely changing this season.
The Brazilian has been a stalwart of the side for several years now. And Arsenal deserve enormous praise for signing a player of his calibre for just over £23 million.
