He is the Only closest friend I have in the German squad’: Kai Havertz begs Arteta to approve the signing of 27yr old German player as He is the only one that can Salvage Arsenal Striking problem now

Arsenal are back in the hunt for Dortmund star Julian Brandt but face competition from Newcastle United for the Borussia Dortmund star.

Arsenal are battling Premier League rivals Newcastle United in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund playmaker Julian Brandt.

That is according to a report from The Mirror, who claim that the race for Brandt is on ahead of the January transfer window.

Dortmund missed out on the Bundesliga title last season and are already 10 points off the pace this season.

Add in a patchy Champions League campaign and this may be a great time for clubs to try and tempt Dortmund stars away from Germany…

Arsenal and Newcastle United interested in Julian Brandt
The Mirror now claim that both Arsenal and Newcastle are interested in luring Brandt to England in 2024.

It’s stated that Newcastle like what they have seen from Brandt in two Champions League games against Dortmund this season.

Brandt scored against Newcastle just a few days ago and the Magpies seem to fancy signing him.

Arsenal are interested too though, with Dortmund so far completely refusing to let Brandt leave.

Brandt is still contracted to Dortmund until 2026, so any deal to join Arsenal or Newcastle in January seems very, very unlikely.

Who is Arsenal target Brandt?
It feels like Brandt has been around forever but he is still only 27.

An attacking midfielder, Brandt emerged with Bayer Leverkusen and became a hot commodity during his time with the Werkself.

Brandt was famously wanted by Liverpool in 2017 and was Jurgen Klopp’s top target, but no deal materialised.

Liverpool went on to sign Mohamed Salah instead, a real sliding doors moment for the Reds.

Brandt did leave Leverkusen in 2019 as he joined Dortmund, where he has played 185 times with 36 goals and 39 assists to his name.

One interesting note here is that Brandt struck up a ‘close friendship with now-Arsenal man Kai Havertz during their time together at Leverkusen.

The Bundesliga website highlights that the pair were labelled ‘Bravertz’ in the German media and said an emotional goodbye when Brandt moved to Dortmund.

Maybe Brandt and Havertz can rekindle that relationship in North London, with Arsenal now seemingly keen on reuniting them.
