TalkSPORT have revealed that Graham Potter has emerged as a candidate to become the next Manchester United manager if Ten Hag faces the sack in the coming days.
The Sun add that Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who is set to buy 25 per cent of Manchester United and take over all football operations, has already met with Potter and favours him to be the manager if he decides to sack Ten Hag.
Potter, 48, has been out of a job since being shown the door at Chelsea in April this year.
Graham Potter will need time at Manchester United
Manchester United take on Liverpool this weekend, and if they get hammered at Anfield like they did last season, Erik ten Hag could well be sacked.
There aren’t many elite managers available at the moment. United will have to think long and hard about who they will bring in, and Potter is an interesting choice. The 48-year-old really struggled at Chelsea during his six months there, but the Blues were in a mess, and it would be harsh to put the complete blame on him.
The Manchester United job will be just as difficult and the pressure will likely be more. If Potter is to get Ten Hag’s job and succeed, he will have to be given time – much more than the six months he got at Stamford Bridge.
Potter, whose work at Brighton was branded as ‘outstanding’ by Pep Guardiola (talkSPORT), would be a good choice for Manchester United, in our opinion, as long as he is given enough time and support.
