He is the only secret weapon I need to destroy the Likes of Man city and Newcastle now’: Mikel Arteta Begs Arsenal board of directors to secure the signing of £50m star in January before Chelsea will highjack the deal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is insisting on signing Ruben Neves in the January transfer window.

The Gunners are short of options in the middle of the park due to Thomas Partey’s long-term injury. The Ghanaian has played just four games in the Premier League this season, and Arsenal are on the lookout to replace him. Sport in Spain claim Arteta wants Neves.

Mikel Arteta wants Arsenal to sign Ruben Neves in January
Arsenal have had an interest in Ruben Neves for well over a year now.

The Portuguese midfielder was a star in the Premier League during his time at Wolves. He was a fantastic player for the Wanderers and was linked with a move to plenty of top clubs.

Sport claim today that Arsenal wanted him last summer, but Wolves’ demands made the Gunners decide against making a move for him.

Arsenal’s interest in Neves, however, still remains, and the report claims that Mikel Arteta wants to bring him to the Emirates in the January transfer window.

It has been claimed that the midfielder is ‘Arteta’s new wish’ and the Arsenal boss is ‘insisting’ that the club’s board sanction a move to sign him from Al-Hilal.

Neves only joined the Saudi side last summer, where he penned a three-year deal worth a whopping £300,000-a-week (The Sun). It’s unclear if he or Al-Hilal are willing to entertain a transfer now.

Neves would be a great replacement for Thomas Partey
When Thomas Partey is fit and available for Arsenal, there aren’t many midfielders in the Premier League who are better than him.

However, since joining the Gunners in 2020, the Ghana international has missed 63 games for club and country. His current injury is expected to keep him out until the end of the year.

To add to that, Partey has been heavily linked with a move away from Arsenal, with journalist Santi Aouna claiming Juventus have already spoken to him about a transfer in January.

Arsenal need a new midfielder in the winter window irrespective of what happens with Partey, and Neves would be a fantastic signing.

The Portugal international is good on the ball, fits Arteta’s system well and most importantly, he knows the Premier League. He can hit the ground running if he joins Arsenal, and we think he would be a great replacement for Partey at the Emirates.
