That will probably go down as one of the easiest nights in Arsenal’s season so far after they thrashed Sheffield United 6-0 at Bramall Lane on Monday night.
It was so easy for the Premier League title-chasers that Mikel Arteta was able to rest Bukayo Saka by taking him off at half-time.
The 22-year-old didn’t leave without having his say because he provided two assists as Arsenal stormed to a 5-0 lead inside 45 minutes, with Jamie Carragher lauding Declan Rice’s passing ability.
Freddie Ljungberg hailed Bukayo Saka for his efforts and how Sheffield United were very wrong to leave him ‘isolated’ on the right channel, as he told Premier League Productions (04/03/24 at 11:10 pm).
The Highbury hero later on compared the speedster’s career so far with his England teammate Phil Foden and how the former has played more than 2000 minutes more since they made their senior debuts as teenagers.
When Bukaya Saka was coming through at Arsenal, Freddie Ljungberg was in the academy and then part of the senior staff.
So, he would have seen him rise and progress into ‘one of the best players in the world in his position’.
One thing is for sure, with Phil Foden playing the best football of his life and Bukayo Saka still doing what he does best, then England have serious attacking talent on their hands ahead of Euro 2024.

“Anyone who sees Bukayo, they will say he is so tactically good, in small spaces he is good, but his pace is enormous,” said Ljungberg about Saka’s role in Arsenal’s second goal.
“Playing against Bukayo Saka. You never, ever let him be isolated, so he can just run at you. He has enormous pace and a great brain. All that Bukayo sees is that space in behind, ‘oh, I am going for it’. You have no chance of catching him, and then you have the first post defending that’s a joke (from Sheffield United).
On Saka and Foden’s game time in their careers so far: “There is a difference (Saka has played more minutes). Then you can say what is right and what is wrong. Maybe Bukayo plays more than he should, he is young and he should be allowed to be rested. He runs a lot.
“Often what we talk about in clubs is the importance of the minutes when they are young, so they get clever. They then get experience in the trade. Like ‘Oh, I need to take it easy now. I can rest. I can go. What should I do? Is this player weak on this side?’
That’s where I feel Bukayo has a little bit of an advantage because he has more minutes. Then you can see he (Foden) can be fresh when he plays and he has won a lot of trophies, so there is no right or wrong.
“He has given so much hope to the academy – one of the best players in the world in his position, in my opinion.”
Winning the Premier League title
Of course, playing for the all-dominant Manchester City, Foden has all the trophies in his locker, including a historical Treble.
Saka has all the talent in the world to reach those heights, it’s just a case of winning the big one for the very first time and then the ball will start to roll at a serious pace.
After last season’s heartache, Arsenal will want to put the wrongs right and secure the club’s first title in two decades.
If Saka can be the man to guide them down that road, then he will instantly become an Arsenal legend.
