Martin Keown has criticised Arsenal’s Kai Havertz for his lack of ruthlessness in the FA Cup third round clash against Liverpool.

Arsenal had plenty of opportunities to find the net in the first half of the game at Emirates Stadium but were unable to score, with Havertz amongst those to miss a chance.

Speaking on BBC, Keown said: They’ve played Havertz in midfield, they’ve played him up front. Why’s he not coming on to that and hitting it?’.

However, Danny Murphy praised Havertz’s impressive work off the ball.

Murphy said: ‘It’s working really well, Havertz leading that press. Rice has been superb in the middle of the pitch. You can see the intent. They kept taking their time.’

Keown added that Arsenal’s approach play had been ‘magnificent’.

Keown said: ‘You’ve got to really go for it. The approach play has been magnificent. This was four opportunities all at once.’

Havertz took some time to adapt following his £65million move to Arsenal from Chelsea.

However, there have been some encouraging signs of late, with Havertz having scored four goals in his last nine games ahead of the Liverpool fixture.

The 24-year-old is usually used as an attacking midfielder for Arsenal but he was chosen to start up front against Liverpool in the absence of the injured Gabriel Jesus.
