‘HE WILL LEAVE’: Merson says he’s 100% right about Arsenal midfielder who ‘might’ leave

Paul Merson has raved about Arsenal midfielder Jorginho in The Daily Star, and has said that the Gunners were very smart in signing the Italy international star from Chelsea in the January transfer window.

The Sky Sports pundit has said that he always knew that Jorginho was going to be a brilliant signing for Arsenal and would be able to make an immediate impact at the Emirates Stadium.

The former Arsenal star has said that the Italian star could even leave the Gunners at the end of the season.

However, Merson believes that Jorginho would have done his job if he did end up leaving Arsenal in the summer of 2023.

PAUL MERSON ON ARSENAL MIDFIELDER JORGINHO

Merson wrote: “The Jorginho signing has been an absolute masterstroke from Arsenal. They have played an absolute blinder and I have said it all along.

“He has been integral to all of their last three wins and it came just at the right time after Thomas Partey was struggling with a muscle injury.”

The Sky Sports pundit added: “I thought Jorginho was going to be a phenomenal signing and that’s exactly what has transpired. It was just so clever in every way imaginable.

“He might not even be there next season, I wouldn’t be surprised if he left this summer but it doesn’t matter. It’s just the way Arsenal are thinking, they’re doing everything they can to maximise their chances of success.”

IMMEDIATE IMPACT AT THE GUNNERS

Jorginho is one of the best midfielders around in the Premier League, and we are not surprised at all that he has been able to make an immediate impact at Arsenal.

After all, the Italian is in his prime and is hugely experienced.

Jorginho won the UEFA Champions League with Chelsea and the Euro 2020 finals with Italy.

As Merson notes, the main reason why Arsenal signed Jorginho in the middle of the season was to give them that extra push that the Gunners need(ed) to win the Premier League title this season.

And it could well end up being an inspired signing.
