‘He won’t sleep’: Rio Ferdinand says player Arsenal sold will have nightmares after incident in CL last night

Although Arsenal didn’t qualify for the Champions League this season, they still had plenty of past and present players in the competition.

A host of them were playing for Olympique Marseille as they played Tottenham Hotspur last night.

Speaking on BT Sport, Rio Ferdinand and Jermaine Jenas were commenting on the result.

Spurs once again struggled in the first-half and found themselves 1-0 down.

However, goals from Clement Lenglet and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg eventually saw them win the tie.

Marseille will be incredibly disappointed to have lost the game, and had plenty of chances.

On-loan Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares, and familiar names Matteo Guendouzi, Alexis Sanchez and Sead Kolasinac all featured.

It was a miss in the final minutes from Kolasinac that will cause the defender to have nightmares.

The Bosnian was unmarked at the back post, but headed his effort down too powerfully and it bounced over the bar.

Hojbjerg scored the winner just minutes later, eliminating Marseille from European football completely.

Kolasinac will have nightmares about miss last night

Speaking on BT Sport after the match, Jermaine Jenas and Rio Ferdinand couldn’t believe his miss.

Jenas said: “Quite thankful to an Arsenal player for that big miss at the end!”

Ferdinand followed up his comment by saying, “He won’t sleep tonight, Kolasinac.”

Kolasinac left Arsenal by mutual consent in January and signed an 18-month deal with Marseille.

A report from The Athletic suggested last month that Kolasinac was in the best form in years.

Mikel Arteta suggested that Kolasinac’s contract situation put Arsenal in a ‘difficult position’ as he was allowed to leave.

Kolasinac will still be having nightmares for some time knowing he could have taken Marseille to the knockout stages.

Tottenham will certainly be glad the chance fell to a player who hasn’t scored since February last year.

Kolasinac could have done Arsenal fans one last favour, but couldn’t show the necessary composure.
