Arsenal have been handed a potential boost in signing PSV Eindhoven forward Johan Bakayoko during the ongoing transfer window.
The Belgium international had a fantastic 2023/24 campaign with PSV, scoring 14 goals and providing 14 assists from 48 appearances.
He has since been tipped to pursue a bigger challenge and it was recently claimed that Arsenal could be favourites to sign him ahead of Liverpool.
The Dutch champions are prepared to part ways with Bakayoko for £38 million. The 21-year-old has now provided an incentive to Arsenal with his comments.
Speaking to Voetbal International today, Bakayoko said that he does not want to join clubs in the middle bracket and has high ambitions for himself.
He added that he wants to go to a club that can go far in the Champions League as well as play for titles.
He said: “I exclude a lot of clubs. My ambitions are high and not with the clubs in the middle bracket. I am doing well here, so I will only exchange PSV for a club that plays for prizes.”
“I want to go to a club that can go as far as possible in the Champions League. A club that plays for the title every season and where I can improve every year.
“It could be a good moment to make a transfer now, but that could also be the case next year.”
Arsenal handed incentive to sign Bakayoko
The Gunners have finished runners-up in the Premier League in the last two seasons. In the recent campaign, they missed out on the title to Manchester City by just two points.
The club have yet to sign an outfield player this summer, but the fans will be hoping for some activity in the coming weeks. A new winger to support Bukayo Saka should be prioritised.
Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams has been linked for a while, but he has an apparent desire to join Barcelona, who are trying to negotiate personal terms at the moment.
In our view, Arsenal should turn their attention to Bakayoko, who is a specialist right winger.
He managed 28 goal contributions last term, but was also brilliant with other attributes. He won 2.8 take-ons per game alongside five duels. He had a passing accuracy of 87 percent.
The Belgian would be an ideal signing to provide quality competition and depth on the right wing where the club have been over-reliant on Saka with no good deputy for the role.
