Manchester United have been linked with a host of names ahead of this upcoming transfer window and it is still not clear how many of these players the Red Devils would actually make a move for this summer.

Irrespective of who the player is though, one position that they desperately need to reinforce is the striker role.

Through the course of the 2024/25 season, Man Utd struggled to get goals from the striker options. Rasmus Hojlund played most of the games as the number nine and the Dane did not have the kind of impact one would have expected from him in his second season in England.

Meanwhile, Joshua Zirkzee quickly showed that he was not suited to that role.

The Dutch attacker played much better in a slightly deeper role where he was allowed to get on the ball more.

Thus, Ruben Amorim could continue to use him as an attacking midfielder in the upcoming season and this leaves a void for him to fill in the number nine role.

Now, as per Caught Offside, Man Utd are keen to sign talented striker Aleksandar Mitrovic from Al-Hilal, as they look to bring him back to England.

Should Man Utd sign Mitrovic?
The Serbian striker has previously played for Fulham and Newcastle United in the Premier League and the Saudi club might be willing to sanction a sale for around £40m this summer.

Al-Hilal are said to be paying Mitrovic around £400,000-per-week as his wages currently but the report mentions that the player is willing to take a significant wage cut to return to Europe. The physical striker has had a good season, managing to score 19 goals in 23 games for the SPL club.

Man Utd are not alone in their interest in Mitrovic with clubs like AC Milan, Napoli, Newcastle United, Wolves, Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and West Ham United all interested in the striker. For the Red Devils, he would make sense as he is someone who has prior experiences of scoring goals in England.

At 30, Mitrovic is in the prime years of his career as a footballer. He isn’t a youngster and that is exactly what Man Utd need, as they already have a talented young number nine – Hojlund, in their ranks.

The Dane could learn the tricks of the trade from the Serbian.

While the transfer fee is definitely not on the higher side, it could all come down to how much Mitrovic is willing to accept as a wage cut, to move to Man Utd.

If he is willing to agree to terms that the Red Devils find favorable, making a move for him makes a lot of sense. Mitrovic or not, a new striker looks set to join the Manchester-based club this summer and let’s wait and see who it is.
