Man United are keen on adding Trevoh Chalobah to the squad, with the defender deemed surplus to requirements at Chelsea.

Manchester United have already added one new centre-back to the squad in the form of Leny Yoro. The Frenchman was a surprise addition, particularly as Real Madrid were also heavily interested in bringing him in.

We all just assumed that United would then turn their attention to strengthening other positions. That may not be the case. Erik ten Hag may yet bring in a second central defender during this window.

Now, according to Give Me Sport, it’s claimed United hold a ‘genuine interest’ in signing 25-year-old defender, Trevoh Chalobah.

GMS back up the proposition that United could bring in a second centre-half in the same window.

Chalobah’s ability to play as a right-back, amid doubts over Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s future, could be among the reasons why the Old Trafford club are looking at the Englishman specifically.

In terms of asking price, Give Me Sport believe Chelsea want £25m to let Chalobah leave permanently, though I believe that figure could be negotiated down as the Stamford Bridge club have already made their intentions clear.

Chalobah has been left at home as Chelsea begin their pre-season tour. They’re seemingly determined to cash in on the fan favourite during this window. United could look to use that to their advantage.

This would further strengthen a backline that does need extra help this summer. Chalobah is young, hungry and has a point to prove. He’s an underrated defender who could dip in and out of the starting line-up as and when required.

Do you think a Man United move to sign Trevoh Chalobah would make sense? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
