‘He’s My favourite striker, i don’t care if we spend lot of money to get Him’: Thierry Henry admits he absolutely loves £82m striker who Andrea Berta wants to sign for Arsenal

Just like almost every other Arsenal fan in existence, club legend Thierry Henry has recognised the need for a new striker at the Emirates Stadium this summer.

In the Premier League last season, no Arsenal player reached double digits and despite his injury, Kai Havertz finished top of the Gunners’ goal chart with nine strikes.

And whilst Havertz and Gabriel Jesus were both injured for long periods, it’s simply impossible to win a league title without a player who can score 10 or more goals.

In fact, most will believe that Mikel Arteta will need a number nine who can net 20 goals in a campaign — it’s not going to be easy to find one.

And whilst Andrea Berta is a big fan of Viktor Gyokeres, a new name has now been linked with Arsenal, someone they actually wanted to sign almost a year ago.

It’s now been reported that Berta would like to sign Julian Alvarez for Arsenal, the former Manchester City forward who signed for Atletico Madrid for £82m last summer.

Alvarez has enjoyed a brilliant debut season in Spain with Atletico, netting 29 goals in 54 games.

And when appearing on the ‘Stick to Football’ podcast, Arsenal legend Henry has admitted that the 25-year-old is actually his ‘favourite’ striker out there right now.

Henry wasn’t sure if Alvarez would be available for Arsenal, but he was entirely convinced about the Argentinian’s credentials.

He said: “One of my favourite nines out there at the minute is Julian Alvarez. And you know, we’ve been talking about it. Putting pressure, playing it long, low, whatever you want to do.

“You see the free kick he scored the other day. He can hold the ball alone. He played at the Olympic Games, he played the Copa America.

“I don’t hear him saying I’m tired or not tired. He plays it, hopefully, nothing bad’s gonna happen to him.

“He played everything. And the way he plays it, I just like him. But is it possible [for Arsenal]? I don’t know.”

Who is the right striker for Mikel Arteta?
As Henry alludes to, a move for Alvarez might be unrealistic for Arsenal this summer.

The former Man City forward is very happy in Spain and there’s little reason for him to ditch Diego Simeone’s project already.

Therefore, Arsenal’s most realistic options still appear to be either Gyokeres or Benjamin Sesko.

Both strikers are thought to be available for a similar price this summer, around about the £60m mark.

However, Sesko might be the better choice for Arsenal given that he’s at an earlier stage of his career and arguably showing more potential.

Arteta needs a striker who can make an impact immediately, but it has to be remembered that Havertz will still often start as the number nine.

And in terms of Gyokeres or Sesko, the latter seems a lot better suited to initially dovetail with Havertz up top, an exciting combo for Arteta to work with.
