‘He’s tenacious’: Arsenal told to replace Granit Xhaka with £85,000-a-week player in the summer
TalkSPORT pundit Tony Cascarino has said that Arsenal should sign Mason Mount from Chelsea to replace Granit Xhaka.
The former Chelsea player has written in The Times that Mason Mount would be a very good signing for Arsenal in the summer transfer window as a potential replacement for Granit Xhaka.
The Athletic reported this week that Arsenal are determined to sign Mount from London and Premier League rivals Chelsea.
Earlier this month, 90min claimed that Liverpool are also keen on the £85,000-a-week (The Daily Mail) England international midfielder
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported that Xhaka will leave Arsenal for German club Bayer Leverkusen in the summer transfer window.
Cascarino wrote about Mount: “I doubt he would be the star in any team, but I think his biggest attribute is that he is always thinking about the team and he’s the guy that everyone respects
“I don’t see a Kevin De Bruyne in him, but I do see a really good, honest, hard-working and technically good lad that can get goals — and the greatest players are the ones who work the hardest and drive the team; it’s not always about technicality
“I personally think he would be a great replacement for Granit Xhaka at Arsenal, because I love Mount as an attacking midfielder. His goal record tells you that he loves to play from slightly deeper positions, but he always strives to get into the 18-yard box. He’s tenacious with high energy, although he’s not the quickest.”
The talkSPORT pundit added: “I think Xhaka is a really interesting position for Arsenal to fill unless they believe that Emile Smith Rowe will have a great pre-season and come back from injury and play that position of a goalscoring midfielder.
“But I think Mount fits perfectly into Xhaka’s role and Arsenal are a good fit for him, as a young and energetic team.”
Mason Mount would be a great signing for Arsenal
In our view, Mason Mount would be a very good signing for Arsenal in the summer transfer window.
The 24-year-old is one of the best English midfielders around, and we believe that he would flourish under manager Mikel Arteta at Arsenal.
We have seen in recent years just how good Arteta is with young/youngish players.
And Mount is only 24.
We have no doubt whatsoever that Mount would get better and develop further under Arteta.
The Chelsea no. 19 has made 20 starts and four substitute appearances in the Premier League this season.
Mount has scored three goals and given two assists in those games.
