New Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany is eyeing a move for two Arsenal players this summer.

The Belgian emerged as a shock candidate for the German giants after Thomas Tuchel’s exit. Kompany had only just suffered relegation at Burnley, but he’s now at the helm of one of the biggest clubs in the world.

In his first transfer window as Bayern’s manager, Kompany wants to sign two players from Arsenal.

The first transfer window is always a big one for a new manager.

Kompany will want to make his mark at the Allianz Arena very quickly, and reports have already claimed that he wants to sign Oleksandr Zinchenko from Arsenal.

The Ukraine international has fallen down the pecking order at the Emirates, and with just two years left on his contract, there is a chance Zinchenko will leave the club.

Football Transfers have now made another shocking revelation about Kompany’s plans at Bayern.

The report claims that the Belgian wants to sign forgotten Arsenal midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga as one of his first signings at the Allianz Arena.

The 24-year-old joined the Gunners from Anderlecht for £17.2 million in the summer of 2021 (BBC), and he has spent the last 18 months on loan, first at Crystal Palace and then at Luton Town.

Lokonga has no future at Arsenal, and if the report is to be believed, Kompany is set to open Bayern Munich’s doors for him once the summer window opens.

It has also been claimed that Bayern are eyeing a loan deal for Lokonga, but ‘Arsenal are set to insist on a permanent transfer’ as he, like Zinchenko, will have just two years on his deal in July.

Vincent Kompany once compared Lokonga to a Manchester City legend
Bayern Munich wanting to sign Lokonga is really strange to hear, but it might make sense when you realise that the midfielder worked under Kompany at Anderlecht.

In fact, Kompany was the one who recommended Lokonga to Mikel Arteta.

The move to the Emirates has not worked out for the Belgian midfielder, but Kompany rates Lokonga very highly, so much so that he once compared him to Manchester City legend Yaya Toure.

He said in November 2021: “When I was still a player for City, I was coming to a point where I was thinking about my future. I was watching football from different countries, different places. And I saw Sambi play his first game – his first two games – then he got an injury to his knee.

“But the first thing I did when I saw Sambi is I went to Mikel and said, ‘You’ve got to watch this guy, he’s the new Yaya Toure.’ I still believe the same thing now. What I like with Sambi – and it’s rare in football, what Yaya did have – is he wants the ball no matter what.

“If the teams not doing well, give the ball to Sambi. If the team’s doing well, give the ball to Sambi. He will never hide away from his responsibility. The point is you need players who are not afraid to have the ball when the going gets tough.

“For me, that’s what Sambi has that makes him special.”
