‘His feet aren’t quick enough’: Campbell says one Arsenal player ‘hasn’t been the same’ lately

Speaking on the Highbury Squad YouTube channel, Kevin Campbell has been discussing Granit Xhaka’s recent performances for Arsenal and his slight decline in an attacking sense.

Xhaka started this season brilliantly. His runs from deep into the box made him one of the Gunners’ strongest attacking threats, during the first half of the season.

However, since the new year, Xhaka’s attacking contributions have dried up. He’s not scored or assisted for a little while now, and Campbell is starting to get a bit concerned.

Indeed, the pundit says that Xhaka hasn’t been the same as of late, noting that his feet are looking ever so slightly slower than they were earlier this season.

XHAKA SLOWING DOWN

Campbell gave his verdict on the Swiss midfielder.

“We’ve seen Xhaka play better with Partey for a lot longer, we get that. At the end of the day though, Xhaka, as an attacking force, hasn’t been the same. He’s getting caught on the ball and his feet aren’t quick enough most of the time, As we mentioned about Vieira, he’s making the difference at the top end of the pitch, Xhaka is more ponderous than Vieira. Over this period it can happen and that’s why you have Vieira there to make the difference,” Campbell said.

HAVE BACKUP

Xhaka hasn’t been at his best as of late, but luckily, Arsenal are in a position where they can honestly say that they have capable backup options.

Jorginho has looked brilliant since coming into this team, while, as Campbell says, someone like Fabio Vieira can provide a bit more gumption going forwards too.

Xhaka may just need a rest, and Arsenal are in a position where they’re able to give him a week or two out of the team to recover and return to his best.
