Arsenal defender is not in Mikel Arteta’s plans despite is desire to stay at the Emirates Stadium.
Cedric Soares may have his dreams of another chance at Arsenal dashed amid claims he isn’t in their plans.
That is according to The Telegraph, who claim that Cedric is simply not being factored into Mikel Arteta’s plans for the new season.
Reports from the London Evening Standard suggested in May that Cedric was planning to fight for his place at Arsenal.
That report noted that Cedric still has one year left to run on his £100,000-a-week contract at Arsenal.
Cedric may dream of featuring for Arsenal game but that is looking pretty unlikely at this point.
Maybe the writing was on the wall in January when Arsenal allowed Cedric to go out on loan to Fulham.
Cedric reunited with his former Sporting boss Marco Silva, but he managed just two starts for Fulham.
Now heading back to Arsenal, it looks like the 31-year-old will be told to leave or face being out of Arteta’s plans for a year.
Arsenal already seem to be in talks to replace Cedric Soares
Arsenal were left short in defence towards the end of the season and yet Cedric still isn’t in the plans.
That may be because Arsenal already have plans to replace the Portuguese defender this summer.
Galatasaray ace Sacha Boey has been heavily linked.
Turkish news outlet Sporx reported in May that Arsenal have held talks to sign Boey.
Galatasaray want around £22million for Boey, who is predominantly a right back who could also feature at left back.
Leicester City man Timothy Castagne is another player Arsenal are allegedly in talks to sign.
Belgian reporter Sacha Tavolieri claims that Arsenal have opened negotiations for Castagne following Leicester’s relegation.
Castagne is more experienced and more proven on both sides of defence than Boey, maybe making more sense as a direct Cedric replacement.
If one of Boey or Castagne do arrive, Cedric’s chance of playing for Arsenal will be even slimmer and it may be time to move on.
