I saw Everton player who cost £0 dominate £180k-per-week Arsenal player with statement performance

Everton secured themselves a stunning draw on Saturday afternoon with an unexpected point away to Arsenal.

The Toffees knew they were coming into the game in north London up against it with Arsenal flying high in the Premier League.

It’s not been a straightforward season for Everton so far but there were some real positives from their prior outing against Wolves.

Mikel Arteta did suggest Everton had an advantage over Arsenal having not played a game of football in over a week.

But the Gunners did enjoy the lion’s share of possession at the Emirates Stadium, as expected

However, they did not have it all their own way on Saturday with one Everton player putting in a real statement performance.

Everton’s Ashley Young dominated Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli

Jamie Carragher criticised Ashely Young earlier this season for his display in the defeat to Southampton last month, but Arsenal star William Saliba expressed his dissatisfaction with how Gabriel Martinelli couldn’t deal with the veteran.

But Young has made up for that performance with his recent showings, including Saturday’s dominant display against Arsenal.

The Premier League veteran was coming up against a Gabriel Martinelli who has impressed under Arteta in recent seasons.

The Brazilian did not get much change out of the 39-year-old free signing at the Emirates Stadium on the left wing for the Gunners.

Here is a round-up of Young’s stunning display at right-back…

90 minutes played
4 clearances
3 interceptions
7 tackles
7/9 ground duels won
43 touches

Young became the oldest goalscorer from a free-kick in the Premier League with his free-kick against Wolves, but this display was potentially even more impressive.

Ashley Young looks undroppable for Everton

Despite coming up against a 23-year-old Martinelli who earned £180k-per-week, Young did not look out of his depth.

Having struggled against Young all afternoon, Martinelli was hooked in the 75th minute by Arteta for Leandro Trossard.
