Chelsea are unlikely to seal a move for long-term target Victor Osimhen in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Osimhen sealed a season-long loan to Galatasaray last month after indicating he no longer wanted to play for Napoli.

However, there is a break clause in the agreement – meaning he will be available for £68million in January.

Napoli director Mauro Meluso has recently revealed the Turkey loan was a “last-minute solution so he would not lose the first three months of the season”.

“We will see in January,” he added – opening the door to a potential swoop from his long-term admirers.

However, sources close to the club say the deal will remain too difficult to do for Chelsea mid-season with Financial Fair Play and Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) a concern.

It is therefore likely the saga over Osimhen’s long-term future will run on until next summer.

The Nigeria international, who is currently out with a muscle strain, has notched two goals and four assists in four games this season.

He hit 76 goals in 133 appearances for Napoli before falling out with the club’s hierarchy and manager Antonio Conte.

The forward’s contract in Campania runs until June 2026.

Chelsea are currently lining up with Senegal international Nicolas Jackson as their first-choice striking option.

The 23-year-old has hit four goals and contributed three assists in eight games so far in the 2024-25 campaign.
