Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim is desperately looking for a positive result as he takes his side to Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
We can only hope for a better 2025 for Manchester United.
2024 had the high of an FA Cup win but the year was littered with missteps both on and off the pitch.
Backing and then sacking Erik ten Hag, hiring and then effectively firing Dan Ashworth, ending 2024 with five defeats in six Premier League games… the last year has largely been one to forget.
Ruben Amorim now wants to start 2025 on a high but a trip to face Premier League leaders Liverpool at Anfield is hardly ideal.
United won away at Manchester City though and Amorim will be looking to channel that performance at the Etihad Stadium as he heads to Anfield.

United fans would no doubt love to throw a spanner in the works as Liverpool chase the Premier League title.
Supporters will flock from Manchester to Merseyside in the hope of a memorable Anfield afternoon.
Amorim has struggled to bring victories to United fans so far but largely still has the backing of the fanbase having walked into a real mess at Old Trafford.
United fans have been chanting ‘Ruben Amorim’s red and white army’, throwing support behind the new boss despite some poor results and performances.
Amorim has now been asked about that chant and told United’s official website that it’s ‘so strange’ to hear given the recent defeats.
Amorim added that whilst some may not understand the path right now, he is adamant that he is ‘going to succeed’ at Old Trafford.
“It’s so strange! I will do my best. I am giving everything to help the club and we are going to succeed,” said Amorim.
“I know that is hard to understand in this moment, but we are going to succeed,” he added.

Amorim added praise for the United fans after huge support during the second half of United’s 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United on Monday.
Amorim called the support ‘unbelievable’ and ‘amazing’, unwavering despite being in the bottom half of the Premeir League table.
The United boss added that he can’t really ask for anything more from the United fans – except maybe more patience going forward.
“What happened in the second half of the game – I had some friends there – it’s unbelievable. They support us and you can look at the table,” said Amorim.
“We lose four in a row and the supporters were amazing again, I cannot ask anything [more] for the support, maybe a little bit more patience.
“I cannot say nothing to the supporters. They are tired of this moment and we need to do our job to help the supporters in this moment,” he added.
A win at Anfield would certainly buy Amorim more time and adulation with the United fanbase, but that certainly won’t be an easy task with Arne Slot’s men flying high.
