“I have never played against such dangerousy aggressive player before….He’s the best defender I’ve ever faced in my whole professional career”: Leicester City striker Jamie Verdy names ONE Arsenal defender as the best defender in the world
Arsenal returned to winning ways in the Premier League with a 4-2 triumph over Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium yesterday.
The Gunners opened the scoring through Gabriel Martinelli before Leandro Trossard bagged the club’s second goal right before the interval.
James Justin brought the Foxes back into the game with a headed goal and a wonder strike, but Arsenal had the final laugh at the Emirates.
Trossard made the difference in stoppage time. His attempted pass took a huge deflection off Wilfred Ndidi to find the back of the net.
Kai Havertz completed the scoring for the Gunners with a fourth goal in the dying seconds.
Arsenal were outstanding in an attacking sense yesterday and they could have easily won the encounter by a significant margin instead.
Speaking after the own goal, Gunners legend Martin Keown heaped praise on Trossard and said that he has been worth every penny for the club.
Keown told BBC Sport: “What a buy Leandro Trossard was! Worth every penny. A perfect day if it finishes like this.
“Arsenal score from a set-piece – who’d believe it?
“Arsenal just kept believing. It is a lucky goal and ‘lucky Arsenal’ is a nice tag to have.”
Trossard had a forgettable outing against Manchester City last weekend. He was sent off before the break for kicking the ball away after a foul.
He was subsequently suspended for the 5-1 win over Bolton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup third round, but made amends against the Foxes.
Trossard has been impressive from the number 10 position in Martin Odegaard’s absence and he should be an assured starter going forward.
Arsenal will be in Champions League action against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night and manager Mikel Arteta could go with an unchanged XI.
