While playing a classic game of start, sub, sell, Man City striker Erling Haaland decided to bench Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard, with the other options for playmakers being Kevin De Bruyne and Jude Bellingham.
The Norwegian goalscorer only recently singled out his national teammate for praise, referring to his progress as ‘fantastic’ ahead of his side’s 3-1 win against Mikel Arteta’s side.
While the likes of Jamie Carragher, Ian Wright and Cesc Fabregas have also been awestruck by the £115,000-a-week man’s cracking displays this season, it may seem to some as if the City talisman still does not think he is the best of the best amongst the attacking midfielders in question.
Now, Erling Haaland goes on to explain why Martin Odegaard does not start in a game of start, sub, sell, when mentioned alongside Kevin De Bruyne and Jude Bellingham.

However, Erling Haaland has explained why he has chosen to bench Martin Odegaard, when mentioned alongside Kevin De Bruyne and Jude Bellingham in an interview with Liv Wang, saying, “Ah, that’s a difficult question.”
“Obviously, my teammate, I have to keep Kevin [De Bruyne]. Jude [Bellingham], I think I would get so much money for right now because he’s so young so get rid of him and sell him for loads of money. Odegaard, my biggest rival at the moment, I have to bench him. Yeah, that’s how it goes.”
Ultimately, the fact that Erling Haaland did not bench Martin Odegaard due to his quality or lack thereof, despite being in a conversation alongside other stalwarts such as Kevin De Bruyne and Jude Bellingham shows how highly he rates him.
