“I know Erik ten Hag made some mistakes which caused him his job but for signing that particular player, it shows he’s a professional coach… I’m so happy to have that player in my team”: Man United’s new coach Ruben Amorim applauds Erik ten Hag for signing a generational talent last summer but blamed him for not using the player

Ruben Amorim reportedly has high hopes for one Manchester United player after taking charge of the Red Devils on a contract until 2027.

The 39-year-old has left Sporting CP to join United and replace Erik ten Hag after his dismissal last month. After signing off with Sporting, he arrived at Carrington on Monday and met a number of the players not currently with their countries on international duty.

Amorim’s first game in charge will be on 24 November when they take on Ipswich Town at Portman Road and already there is plenty of curiosity as to what the Portuguese will be able to do with a group of players who have underperformed and currently lie 13th in the Premier League.

The new boss met him for the first time this week and sees him as one of “the most interesting players to develop”.

Yoro signed for United from Lille for a fee of £52 million in the summer and agreed a five-year contract. However the 19-year-old centre-back endured a nightmare start, suffering a metatarsal injury in pre-season which has put him on the sidelines for months.

Amorim and his staff will have their own ideas but Fabrizio Romano has word on the player they are most excited to work with. According to the Italian journalist, Amorim views young defensive starlet Leny Yoro as a “generational talent” – concurring with the club’s stance on his potential.

He has therefore not yet made a competitive appearance for the Red Devils but is believed to be closing in on a return to action, much to the excitement of United’s supporters.

A separate report from The Sun claims that Amorim deems Mason Mount to be an important part of his plans after a difficult start to life at United.
