‘I LOVE HIM’: Raheem Sterling wowed by Arsenal’s surprise transfer of 46-cap international
Raheem Sterling has called Arsenal new signing Jorginho a ‘big baller’ on Instagram after he secured a surprise transfer from Chelsea to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.
At the start of transfer deadline day, a lot of the talk was around Chelsea trying to sign Enzo Fernandez and Arsenal needing that defensive-minded midfielder.
Whilst it was a long shot, the hope was that Edu could get that much-wanted Moises Caicedo deal done, or perhaps bring in another defensive-minded option.
In truth, not many expected Italy’s Euro 2020 winner Jorginho to be making the short trip across London.
But that’s the beauty of transfer deadline day, with the 31-year-old securing a £12 million deal (BBC Sport) to the Premier League leaders.
Jorginho reacted on Instagram to his move, with many players praising the 46-cap international, including England international Raheem Sterling calling him a ‘big baller’ in the comments section and adding ‘all the best brother’.
JORGINHO WILL COOK UNDER ARTETA
Yes, it will be frustrating that Arsenal weren’t able to sign Caicedo or a player more suited to Thomas Partey’s style of play.
But under Mikel Arteta’s system, Jorginho is going to cook because he suits a possession-based team and he is an upgrade on the club’s bench.
That ability to control the tempo of a game, bring that calmness and trophy-winning mentality could prove to be crucial for the Gunners, as Jorginho could go from battling in mid-table at Chelsea to possibly winning the title.
