I strongly believe they’re going to carry this cup’: Man united legend Wayne Rooney finally reveals who is going to win premier League this season between Arsenal and Man city

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney believes ‘a lot’ of Mikel Arteta’s current success at Arsenal is down to his years working alongside Pep Guardiola.

Mikel Arteta has made quite the impact at Arsenal after struggling to turn them into a consistent side during the early stages of his tenure.

After back-to-back eight-placed finishes in his first two seasons, as well as a surprise FA Cup win, Arteta now has the Gunners competing for major honours.

Despite falling short in the race for the Premier League title last term, Arsenal are right in the mix once again this season and remain in the Champions League.

And Wayne Rooney believes Arteta has benefitted from working alongside one of the greats Pep Guardiola.

Rooney makes fresh claim about Arteta and Guardiola
Of course, Arteta worked as Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City for three and a half years before landing the Arsenal job in December 2019.

Rooney was asked whether or not he would consider an assistant manager’s role after his latest spell at Birmingham City didn’t exactly go to plan.

“It depends,” he told Stick to Football. “Listen if Pep Guardiola comes up and offers me the assistant!

“You see what Arteta is doing now and I strongly believe a lot of that is from learning from what Guardiola is doing.”

There’s no denying that Arteta has benefitted from working alongside one of the greatest managers of all time.

But the Arsenal boss is now competing with his old mentor and has gone his own way in north London.

While there are similarities between the two, Arteta has stamped his own mark on this Arsenal side and their style differs massively from that of City’s.

Arteta will certainly be hoping to get one over Guardiola this term after City beat the Gunners to the title last season.

The two sides are level on points at the moment, with Liverpool leading the way by a single point.
