Things have gone from bad to worse for the Brazilian ever since he joined the Old Trafford club from Ajax in a €95 million deal back in 2022. His former coach, Erik ten Hag, was appointed at United just weeks prior to the transfer, with the Dutchman telling the club that the winger would be worth every penny.

But Antony has more than failed to live up to the mark. Over the summer, he spoke to the English media about his intention to come back stronger. “Yes, yes they will see more – it’s there written on paper in my objectives – more work on the right foot, score more goals and assists,” he said via MEN. “I’ll show you these notes one day and you’ll see the results this season.”

But so far this campaign, Antony has just one goal, coming in United’s 7-0 win over Barnsley in the League Cup. He has played just 27 minutes of Premier League football, losing his place to Amad Diallo. And now a report from UtdDistrict has suggested that he is inching closer to an exit.

Their story read: “UtdDistrict understands that Antony is not currently happy with his situation at Old Trafford and wants to hold talks with the club to understand his role going forward.

“While the Brazilian remains dedicated to the team, he is not content with his current game-time and will look for an exit if the situation does not change.”

Amorim to axe Antony
United head coach Ruben Amorim is ready to offload several United players as early as January, with Antony being one linked with a loan move away.

Indeed, TEAMtalk claimed that Amorim already knows which players will not feature going forward. It stated that Christian Eriksen, Casemiro, Victor Lindelof and Antony will not have a place in his side.

Casemiro has seen an uptick in form of late, however. The midfielder has worked well as a double pivot alongside Manuel Ugarte. The veteran looked out of shape at the start of the campaign but is starting to look a lot more like the player who enjoyed a stellar tenure at Real Madrid.

But, indeed, Antony will likely be moved on. The money that United forked out for him has been labelled as the worst transfer in Premier League history. It’s not clear whether he will accept terms elsewhere given his large salary but a loan seems the most likely outcome for the winger.
