“I want another opportunity to play for this great club,” said another Chelsea star who rejected Arsenal that year, now in tears as he begs Arteta for a second chance to play for the Gunners next season after an unfavorable spell at Chelsea.
Mykhailo Mudryk signed with Chelsea in a £89m deal in January of 2023, a move that surprised many given his previous interest in joining Arsenal. The Ukrainian forward signed an eight-and-a-half-year contract with Chelsea, joining the team at Stamford Bridge.
Mudryk had previously been in talks with Arsenal, and it was rumored that he was interested in joining the team. However, the negotiations never resulted in an agreement, and Chelsea was able to offer a bigger fee for the 22-year-old winger.
Mudryk has spoken publicly about his decision to join Chelsea, saying that he was drawn to the “very attractive project” at the club. He has also spoken about his excitement to work with and learn from the new manager and his staff.
Arsenal was reportedly unwilling to meet Chelsea’s offer for Mudryk, and the team instead signed Leandro Trossard from Brighton. Mudryk’s time at Chelsea has been marked by struggles to find a place in the starting lineup, and he has been restricted to mostly substitute appearances.
