Arsenal come up against Liverpool in the Premier League today. There is plenty of excitement and anticipation heading into this match, not just from both sets of fans, but neutrals too.
Of course, William Saliba is missing for Arsenal through suspension. Other confirmed absentees include Riccardo Calafiori, Kieran Tierney and Takehiro Tomiyasu.
There is a late fitness test for Riccardo Calafiori Bukayo Saka and Jurrien Timber. However, neither player was involved in Arsenal’s training session on Friday.
So, what will be the Arsenal lineup vs Liverpool?
Predicted Arsenal lineup vs Liverpool
GK: David Raya. The Spaniard is the number one choice between the sticks for Arsenal. Only Andre Onana has kept more clean sheets in the league this season than Raya.
RB: Jurrien Timber. Hopefully, Arsenal will have Calafiori or Jurrien Timber to rely on at right-back. This is more a hopeful selection, considering Mikel Arteta is still uncertain whether either full-back will be back in contention.
CB: Gabriel. Scored a goal for Arsenal in this fixture last season. He also scored an own goal for Liverpool in this fixture. He will hope to repeat the first outcome, of course.
CB: Ben White. Luckily, Ben White has experience of playing at centre-back. Therefore, he can slot into his original position to cover the suspended William Saliba.
LB: Myles Lewis-Skelly. Talk about throwing a player into the deep end. Due to a handful of injuries to full-backs, Myles Lewis-Skelly might be handed his full Premier League debut today.
CM: Thomas Partey. Thomas Partey can provide defensive cover if needed. Fans only hope that he will be quick to defend on the transition, since Liverpool can harm on the counter attack.
CM: Mikel Merino. He’s been good since coming into the Arsenal setup. This game is a real opportunity for the summer signing to assert his authority on the starting lineup.
CM: Declan Rice. Remember that piece of defensive work Declan Rice carried out last season, when Liverpool were seemingly 11v1 on the counter attack? Yeah, let’s hope he isn’t forced into that situation again but if he is, there’s nobody better for the job.
LW: Gabriel Martinelli. Gabriel Martinelli always seems to shine against Liverpool. So, thankfully for Arsenal fans, there are no injury concerns when it comes to the Brazil international. He is in good form over the last month, so he’ll hope that continues.
CF: Kai Havertz. The man for the big occasion, as far as Arsenal is concerned. The Germany international has an opportunity to score in six consecutive Premier League games at home. He would be the first Arsenal player to do this since Thierry Henry.
RW: Bukayo Saka. Again, this is a wishful inclusion. Mikel Arteta did confirm on Friday that Bukayo Saka has been training on grass. He also said that he will do everything in his power to include his strongest players in the lineup. So, there is hope that Arsenal fans will see a 50% fit Bukayo Saka today.
