Arsenal beat Tottenham on Saturday in a game that was largely defined by players who weren’t on the pitch.

Indeed, with the likes of Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard and Yves Bissouma all injured heading into this one, a lot of the build-up was around the absentees rather than the players who were playing.

However, in the aftermath of the match, many of the standout performers in this game have received their due credit, and, as you can imagine, Arsenal’s defenders were in the spotlight.

Gabriel Magalhaes received huge props for his match-winning goal, while William Saliba was as imperious as always.

However, speaking on The Game Football Podcast, Tony Cascarino has reserved some special praise for Jurrien Timber, claiming that he was really solid against Tottenham and put in his best performance yet for Arsenal.

Jurrien Timber had his best game yet vs Tottenham
Cascarino shared his verdict on Timber’s showing.

“This was a typical example, Arsenal were way better than Tottenham defensively as well. You look at White, Saliba, Gabriel and Timber who I thought played really well, it was probably his best game in an Arsenal shirt, he was really solid,” Cascarino said.

Jurrien Timber is getting back to his best
Jurrien Timber hasn’t played many games for Arsenal due to injuries, but he’s now getting back to his best.

The Dutchman is finding his rhythm once again for Arsenal, and he was brilliant against Tottenham this weekend.

Brennan Johnson couldn’t make anything happen down that right flank, and the scary part is that Timber isn’t even a natural left-back.

Arsenal may not have realised at the time, but they really missed Timber last season, and if he can stay injury-free this year, he will show himself to be one of the very best defensive players in the Premier League.

Timber had arguably his best game for Arsenal over the weekend, and that’s a great foundation to now build on.
